Summer Enrichment: Introduction to Forensic Science- Description
- This 5-day camp will introduce students to three aspects of forensic science namely, (1) crime scene documentation, (2) laboratory tools and techniques to process evidence, and (3) court room testimony to determine the guilt or innocence of the defendant.
Students will process a vehicle (crime scene), owned by a missing person, Erica Holmes. Her boyfriend, Marcus O’Neill is the primary suspect. Forensic evidence in the form of blood, bullets, trace evidence, skeletal remains, and DNA will be recovered from the vehicle and processed in the lab to reveal what may have happened. On the final day, the students will present their evidence in a mock trial simulation. Parents are encouraged to attend the last day of class to serve as jurors.
Students will be supplied with a laboratory notebook. They will be required to bring a pen for documentation purposes and a scientific calculator or smart phone. Due to safety requirement, participants will be required to wear close-toed shoes. On the last day of the camp, students are required to dress in business attire for the mock trial testimony.
Class includes lunch period; please bring your own lunch. Registration includes cost of all lab supplies.
