College Essay: Strategies for your College Essays Group B- Description
- The suspension of the SAT and Spring Semester Grades should "change" the balance of how the colleges will review application information. The Essays and the Additional Comments Essay will play a new and more important role in the 2021 admission process. This course is designed for rising seniors and focuses on UC and Common Application Essay prompts in the development of a quality essay/personal statement draft. All sessions for this course are held virtually.
Comprehensive Review Process:
The instructor will review the academic transcripts, test scores and student resume in conjunction with the students' intended college and major selections. Additionally, the instructor will review the student applicant's academic and participation record to help craft an application essay that will complement the application and communicate student passion, need, or critical explanation to the application reader.
Format:
One virtual large group orientation meeting - two hours
Two virtual small group pre-write meetings - one hour each
Two virtual one-on-one meetings with the instructor - 45 minutes per meeting
One-on-One Sessions: Students will sign up for two 45 minutes one-on-one sessions over the summer by using an online scheduling tool for their day and time. All students will receive two 45 minute virtual sessions to specifically review their information and essays. The instructor will use Google Docs to review all of the relevant information with students.
