The GATE Parents Group sponsors SAT Preparation Classes typically starting three times a year. This class is designed for high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. This class focuses on test taking strategies and how the students can prepare themselves for the rigors of standardized testing. This class does NOT review or emphasize academic content; there are no vocabulary lists or math review.

Students need to independently register to take the actual test. Test registration is NOT part of this class. Visit the College Board Website-> to register to take the SAT test.

This class focuses on the SAT examination. Regardless if the student is taking the PSAT, the SAT or the ACT, the test taking strategies learned are applicable to all standardized testing situations.

Due to the public health limitations on in-person gatherings, this class will be offered via Zoom.  The class will involve small group (5 students) tutoring sessions, screensessions with tips and tactics, and practice tests and practice sections.

Students are provided with the same practice books used in commercial preparation courses. "The Official SAT Study Guide" from the College Board "Cracking the NEW SAT" from the Princeton Review.  Students will be sent instructions when and where  to pick up the books.

This workshop is taught by teachers in the SMUHSD. The class is targeted at motivated SMUHSD students. The class is open to GATE and non-GATE students alike. Students recognized as GATE by the SMUHSD are offered a preferential enrollment period and early registration priority. Students claiming GATE status will be compared to the official SMUHSD list of GATE students. The comparison is conducted via Student ID number. Sorry, students from outside SMUHSD do not qualify for the preferential enrollment period. Sorry, students not on the list of GATE Students supplied to us by the SMUHSD will not be allowed to enroll during the preferential enrollment period.

Class size is limited to retain the tutoring sessions to 5 students.  We will divide the students into tutor sessions based on the results of a practice examination taken on the first Satuday.

The  class has a minimum number of attendees to make offering the class economically viable. If the minimum class size is not reached, we reserve the right to cancel the class. You will be notified of any change and have the option to receive a full refund.
